All this semester, we&#8217;ll be following profs and students on 6 campuses to hear their stories on this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edsurge.com\/research\/guides\/pandemic-campus-diaries-a-podcast-series\">podcast series on the EdSurge Podcast<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The stakes for professors feel high: &#8220;What I&#8217;m most concerned about is that one of my students will get sick enough that they are forever affected, or sick enough that they don&#8217;t make it,\u201d says Rachel Davenport, a senior lecturer at Texas State University, in one of her audio diaries. \u201cAnd then if that happens, will I wonder, did they catch it in my class? Could I have done something different to have prevented it?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, students are having a campus experience that some colleges are even comparing to a minimum security prison, like one Syracuse freshman who describes his quarantine in his dorm. Online students, too, face challenges, like the first-generation student who talks about her struggle to find a quiet place to study with two kids at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Impact<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 We&#8217;re thrilled that the podcast series won support from the Education Writers Association through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewa.org\/ewa-fellows-class-10\">a reporting fellowship<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 I talked with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.higheredgeek.com\/blog\/podcast-episode-97-jeff-young\">Higher Ed Geek Podcast<\/a> about our new series and what we&#8217;re learning so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 The Chronicle of Higher Education <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chronicle.com\/newsletter\/the-edge\/2020-08-26\">noted the launch of our podcast<\/a> series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 I sat down with the <a href=\"https:\/\/teachlabpodcast.com\/episodes\/jeff-young-s1!e1c41\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/teachlabpodcast.com\/episodes\/jeff-young-s1!e1c41\">TeachLab podcast<\/a> at MIT to talk about what we&#8217;re learning so far from our series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 The podcast series has been reviewed in a couple places, including at <a href=\"https:\/\/eliterate.us\/digital-residential-education\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/eliterate.us\/digital-residential-education\/\">eLiterate<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/philonedtech.com\/galloways-rants-or-nuanced-reporting-take-your-pick-on-re-opening-narratives\/\">PhilOnEdTech blog<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022&nbsp;I also joined this new online event series, <a href=\"https:\/\/eliterate.us\/next-blursday-social-campus-pandemic-diaries-with-jeff-young\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/eliterate.us\/next-blursday-social-campus-pandemic-diaries-with-jeff-young\/\">Blursday Social<\/a>, to discuss issues raised by the podcast series.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is life really like on college campuses (or remote learning) during this pandemic?
